What We Do

Fostering Joy was created for young people navigating foster care, instability, disconnection, and the overwhelming transition to adulthood.

We aim to offer more than resources -

We are the excited friend, cheering them on as they take their driver’s license exam.

We are the mentors they call to get help landing their first job.

We are the hands offering dignity through hygiene products they actually like,

and Christmas gifts they actually asked for.

We believe that when young people feel encouraged and supported, their capacity to accomplish their goals expands. Too many youth move through the foster care system without ever feeling truly seen. They are handed independence without support. Responsibility without safety. Adulthood without preparation.

We exist to help change that.

Our Work

At Fostering Joy, our work is centered around one core belief:
young people deserve the opportunity to become who they were always meant to be - not just who their circumstances required them to be.

We support youth in foster care through programs, mentorship, life skills development, emotional support, and community-centered experiences designed to strengthen both internal confidence and practical independence.

Every initiative we create is built with intention.
Not only asking “what does this young person need right now?”,
but also -
“who are they becoming because of what we provide?”

Identity & Emotional Intelligence

Many young people leave foster care knowing how to survive, but not always knowing how to trust themselves, communicate safely, regulate emotions, or envision a future beyond survival.

Our work focuses heavily on identity development and emotional intelligence because we believe those skills shape every area of adulthood -

relationships, leadership, career development, self-worth, and decision-making.

We believe growth happens when young people feel seen, supported, challenged, and valued.

Life Skills & Independence

True independence requires more than turning eighteen.

Through workshops, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities,

we guide young people in strengthening practical life skills that create long-term stability and confidence.

This includes support surrounding:

  • Financial literacy

  • Employment readiness

  • Transportation & driver’s licenses

  • Communication skills

  • Healthy relationships

  • Hygiene & self care

  • Career exploration

  • Organization & time management

Our goal is not simply to prepare youth to survive adulthood. Our goal is that youth get to grow up and experience stability, peace and joy.

Education, Career & Opportunity

There is no single definition of success.

Whether a young person wants to pursue college, trade school, entrepreneurship, creative work, or workforce development,

we strive to help remove barriers and expand possibilities for their future.

We are committed to helping youth access opportunity and cheering them on along the way.

Community & Connection

Healing changes when people no longer feel alone.

Fostering Joy creates spaces where young people can experience genuine connection, mentorship, encouragement, celebration, and belonging.

Because sometimes the most transformative thing a young person can experience is being consistently reminded:
“You matter here.”

Our Impact

Foster youth who engage with Fostering Joy are better equipped to navigate adulthood with confidence, stability, and direction.

By strengthening emotional intelligence, life skills, community connection, and self-belief,

we support young people as they move beyond survival mode and toward lasting independence, healthy relationships, and meaningful futures.
